Abia CP vows to nip kidnapping, cultism, other crimes in the bud

The Abia State Police Command has vowed to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, enhance safety and security as well as provide qualitative police service to residents and citizens of the state.

The new State Police Commissioner, Chris Ezike,who stated this at the Command Officers’ Mess in Umuahia during his maiden press briefing, disclosed that he has established the Abia state Command Anti Kidnapping Squad to tackle the challenges of kidnapping and abductions, both in Aba and other parts of the state.

According to Ezike, “the State Traffic Unit has also been established to plan and coordinate traffic control and management throughout the State.

In furtherance of our resolve to ensure Accountability Policing, I have established the Command Monitoring Unit. They are to ensure that Police activities are done in conformity with rules, regulations, the law and best practices. This unit shall also speedily resolve all cases of excessive use of force, abuse of Human Rights and corruption/corrupt practice, reported against police officers.”

The new CP promised to partner sister security agencies and non-state actors in a transparent and professional manner, I promise community policing by building positive bridges with the police, traditional rulers, local government administrators, professional bodies, traders, NGOs and the media.

He also hinted that robust preparations to ensure adequate security during the yuletide as well as elections in 2019 have already started, warning that under his watch, the state will no more be conducive for criminal elements.

Suspects numbering 57 were after the briefing paraded for different offences and crimes.
