Ukwa blows hot, says “only ministerial appointment can assuage our anger”

The people of Ukwa in Abia State have called on the federal government to look into what they call 12 years of neglect of the area by successive governments, saying only a ministerial slot can help address the people’s grievances.
Addressing journalists in Umuahia on Thursday, a prominent son of the area rich in oil ThankGod Ntaku said if an Ukwa son or daughter is appointed a minister in president Muhammadu Buhari’s government, it will address the 12 years economic deprivation and neglect the people have faced.
Mr. Ntaku said he believes strongly that it was the only way the oil rich community would feel the impact of government, saying the two interventionist agencies namely, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission set up by the federal government and state government respectively have been hijacked by those who help their sons get appointments into these commissions.
Ntaku, a Port Harcourt based communication expert said if an indigene of Ukwa is appointed Minister, it will help guide the government in making appointments into Boards of these agencies, adding that it will avail the people the opportunity of taking their destiny into their hands.
He alleged that many contractors who were awarded contracts by the NDDC were those who are not from Ukwa, stressing that the situation is worsened by the fact that these contracts are abandoned.
According to him, “when you have a non-Ukwa indigene as Governor, a non-Ukwa indigene as Senator, a non-Ukwa indigene as Minister, what do you think would be the fate of the people when appointments are made into these commissions set up by the governments to bring about the development of the oil producing areas.
“What you will have is a situation whereby non critical stakeholders take over our own affairs to our detriment and this is very dangerous”
He said it would be good for President Muhammadu Buhari to reward Ukwa people who have remained peaceful in the face of extreme provocations by making an Ukwa son a Minister.
