Two men, Rilwanu Jamiu and Balogun Stanley Oyewole, have been remanded in prison by a Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly cloning the personal phone number of the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, and trying to defraud the state of a whopping N50 million.
It was gathered that Jamiu and Oyewole who claimed to be cocoa merchants, had sent a text message on February 10, 2016, using the cloned number to the state Accountant General, asking him to remit the money into an account they had opened.
Not satisfied wit the way the order came, the Accountant General contacted the Governor and knowing he did not send the message, Ambode ordered a covet investigation and it was soon discovered it was the handwork of Jamiu and Oyewole and two others who are now on the run.
They were arrested and charged to court where they both pleaded not guilty and were admitted to bail in the sum of N1 million each, with two sureties in like sum, while the case was adjourned till May for the consideration of the bail application.
