The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Enugu State chapter has condemned in strong terms the rising spate of violent attacks on communities in Enugu by Hausa/Fulani herdsmen. Speaking to newsmen, the state chairman of APGA, Hon. (Barr.) Ken Ikeh stated that the excesses of the herdsmen in Enugu state have assumed alarming proportion. He added that Government at all levels should rise up to stop this ugly development.
Ikeh noted that for the past one month, Enugu state has become a hotbed for frequent violent attacks orchestrated by the Hausa/Fulani herdsmen. According to him, the other day it happened in Awgu, later it was in Nkanu East and this time it is Nimbo in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area.
We are worried that these herdsmen who have caused serious hardship on their host communities could decide to annihilate them.
We are aware that the Enugu state government has recently approved a grazing reserve for their use but they do not appear to be restricted.
Our hearts go out to the families of the deceased ones and the victims of this dastardly act. We call on both the State and Federal Government to run to the aid of these traumatized citizens and displaced communities in order to give them succor.
We urge the Igbo legislators in the National Assembly not to sit down until they uncover not only the promoters of this in human conduct but also the immediate and remote causes, exact appropriate measures to cushion the effect on the communities and prevent further occurrence before it will assume internecine dimension.
