Buhari To Announce New IGP As Arase Bows Out Today

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase retires today.
Arase was appointed in April 2015 by former President Goodluck Jonathan as Acting IGP following the sack of Sulaiman Abba, over alleged misconduct.
His appointment as substantive IGP was confirmed by the Police Council the following month.

Mr. Arase bows out as the 18th indigenous Inspector General of Police having attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 today with 35 years of active service in the Force.

As officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force anxiously await President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice of successor, the Force PRO, Olabisi Kolawole, confirmed that a new police chief will be announced today.

Kolawole, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, said: “The IG’s tenure will end today and we don’t know who the next IG will be as I speak.
“Even the IGP does not know but maybe he will know later today (yesterday) or tomorrow (today) but as we speak now, we are all in the dark. I am sure we will know tomorrow (today) and will communicate it to you”.

In a related development, President Buhari last night hosted the outgoing IGP to a presidential/farewell dinner with all the security chiefs led by Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, in attendance.
