Abia State Government has indicated its readiness to conduct local government elections into its 17 LGAs in the state after 8 years.

The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC chairman, he said had been directed to communicate the date for the election to the state government.
Government, he said is therefore waiting for the ABSIEC chairman to declare when the election would take place in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, pointing out that it is now left for ABSIEC chairman to declare when and how the election would be conducted.
Comrade Iwuoha also disclosed that the state Exco also, in line with the decision of the Federal Government to expand revenue collection harmonization by all states in the country, had received and accepted the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR policy document of Abia state which was produced by the state IGR committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu.
According to him, this document is expected to address all issues relating to revenue collection and ensure that the problem that existed over time with revenue collection in the state is addressed once and for all.
ABSIEC, he said had sought for the support and had advised the state Exco on how prepared the commission is as well as stating its readiness “if doors are made open in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
