The Ocha Brigade team in collaboration with a joint task force has arrested over 20 unaccredited tax collectors in Agulu, Ekwulobia, Uga to forestall further illegal collection of IGR in her jurisdiction.
This was in the wake of complaints from indigenes of various communities who complained ceaselessly about the illegal activities of these extortionists and hoodlums parading themselves as IGR Collectors.
While speaking to our correspondence, the Chairman of OCHA-BRIGADE stated the outfit’s willingness to work and ensure discipline and rid the state of criminals in co-operation with the other law enforcement agents in Anambra State.
“We have been receiving reports that some criminal minded elements engage in acts of using Tax and Revenue Collection as a means to harass and extort unsuspecting members of the public.
“We got a directive from the Governor to swing into action and apprehend these hoodlums and i can tell you that as at today (12th September 2016) the Ocha Brigade team were able to arrest over 20 of them from Ekwulobia, Uga and Agulu, over harrasement, extortion and illegal revenue collection.
The Chairman also went further to implore the residents of Anambra not to hesitate in reporting the activities of any individual or groups who pose as Revenue Collectors to the Law Enforcement Agents to perpetrate their crimes.
“All payments of IGR should be made through POS or Banks, he said.
