NBA Abuja, Section of Business Law organized a public seminar, which was in collaboration with LawQuest Foundation and Young Lawyers Forum. The Topic of the seminar was “INNOVATIONS IN REAL ESTATE FINANCING AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR LAWYERS”.
The event which took place at ICPC auditorium. Anthony Bamdele Ojo gave the opening remark and introduced members of the high table. The distinguished fellows present were Kachi Okezie Esq, the SBL Chairman, Abuja Branch, Chijioke Orji Esq, the guest speaker, also present at the seminar were the public secretary, Dawaki Esq, Chairman of the Young Lawyers Forum Bwari branch, Mazi Echika Ejido, chairman of the Young Lawyers Forum Gwagwalada branch Onyekachi and so many others.
Mazi EChika Ejido, gave the opening prayer of the NBA, the Chairman of the Unity Bar Branch,Abuja , Chibuke Ezenwa, moderated the event.
Mr Kachi Okezie, said the essence of this seminar is to develop young lawyer. The seminar which was not only focused on continuing Legal Education but to help all lawyers particularly the young lawyers in their personal, individual and professional development alongside the legal education.
The guest speaker Chijioke H.Orji Esq who is the founder/chairman of the LawQuest Group and LawQuest Foundation, a law publishing businessman, gave a talk on Real Estate, where he encouraged lawyers to make good opportunity with any thing that comes there way. They should engage in reading books in order to get abreast with the happenings around the environment and to be able to think outside the box.
He said a lawyer’s practice licence is worth more than a banking licence and with that, one can get engaged in some many ways. He said it is better to invest your money in real estate than banks because land is every thing especially now that our money is loosing its value.That if you have a land in a neighborhood rather than going to borrow you should call on people to build on it while you share the units with him. That is to say that you can get a quick cash while in distress and still share in capital appreciation.
The issue of arbitration was encourage to be incorporated in any property transaction to be carried out to avoid litigation which will take a longer time in any matter.
The Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Barrister Ekpo Nta, said he was impressed that such seminar was organized by the NBA Abuja Section on Business Law. That the SBL in which we are doing is an area where one can garner knowledge on business.
The ICPC Chairman says ,Corruption is best fought with education and training. Lawyers have an important role to play in helping business people understand that it is cheaper to and therefore more profitable in the long run, to comply with laid down rules for doing business than shortcuts that ends up costing more.
Bar. Ekpo Nta , further said that, by partnering with ICPC, business lawyers can make a huge contribution to rule making awareness-raising and sensitisation programmes which will help in driving up compliance with rules of business conduct. The chairman encouraged lawyers to be ICT compliance as it is necessary in every day to day business.
“On this note, i’m pleased to invite the Section of Business Law Committee to further discussion on ways to engage your membership in our upcoming bribery awareness training programmes which we are developing through our institute” says the Chairman.
He also said the SBL Abuja branch is always welcome and free to use the ICPC auditorium for their event.
