The Imo State Police Command has paraded over 40 suspects allegedly involved in various crimes ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, unlawful possession of fire arms and cultism among other heinous crimes just as it has re-introduced “Operation Mkpochapu” in the state.
The Operation Mkpochapu Phase II, according to the commissioner of police, CP. Taiwo Lakanu was billed to ensure a crime-free Christmas period.
Addressing news-men in Owerri, CP. Lakanu stressed that on October 10, 2016 the operatives of the command arrested a four-man gang of kidnappers/armed robbers, who kidnapped and robbed a 52-year-old Cordelia Chikere of Umuokanne community, in the Ohaji/Egbema council area of the state.
According to him, “the victim was kidnapped on Oburugo-Obiti road, Ohaji at a gun point and the sum of N9,000 was stolen from her.”
The CP further said that it was the concerted effort, during a cordon and search operation by the operatives of the command that led to the rescue of the victim inside a hut in the forest without any ransom paid.
He mentioned one Onyinyechi Ezengwu (26) also known as “Mosquito” of Obiti, Chinemerem Ohale (21) of Amuri Awomama in Oru East LGA as the four-man gang involved in the kidnap of Cordelia Chikere.
Similarly, the CP said that on October 26, 2016 another four-man gang that mastermind the kidnap of one Catholic ex-seminarian, Peter Chukwuemeka was nabbed.
He explained that the victim was kidnapped in front of St. Peter’s Seminary Okigwe on October 24, 2016 and rescued by the operatives of the command two days later.
Continuing the police boss said that those behind the ugly act and who had been terrorizing Okigwe and its environs are: one Emmanuel Nnadi (25) of Umulolo Okigwe, Chukwuemeka Desmond (22) of Avutu Obowo, Promise Alamanjo (24) of Umulolo Okigwe and Odii Ekwe (26) of Uburu Ohazara in Ebonyi state”
Lakanu however, said that the suspects had made useful statements disclosing their role in the crime and would soon be charged to court after the police investigations.
The CP also disclosed that the command had introduced Bank, Filing station and Hotel protective units where, operatives of the command would be dispatched to ensure that crime was checked in the areas.
“We chose the three areas first because these are where crimes are perpetuated in the state. I am assuring all Imolites that this forthcoming Xmas celebration will be crime-free.
