The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), has elected a new national President to replace Most Rev Emmanuel J. Udofia whose tenure expired on 15th November, 2016. He is The Rev. Dr. Benebo Fubara Fubara-Manuel, a Reformed pastor, theologian, lecturer, astute administrator and a church leader with The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. He was elected at the 29th General Assembly of the CCN, held at the First Baptist Church, Garki, Abuja.
The Rev. Dr. Fubara-Manuel brings his vast training and experience into the leadership of the CCN (founded in 1929) at a time when the foremost ecumenical body of the Christian Church in Nigeria seeks to re-position itself for greater engagement and impact in ecumenism and national affairs.
Born on April 1, 1964, and a native of Abonnema in Kalabari, Rivers State, the new CCN national leader is the Rector of Essien Ukpabio Presbyterian Theological College, Itu, Akwa Ibom State, and a former Principal Clerk of the General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, in which position he served as the Head of Administration of the Church between 2002 and 2008.
Educated at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt; Trinity (Union) Theological College, Umuahia; Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, USA and Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, Rev. Dr. Fubara-Manuel holds the Ph.D. degree in Systematic Theology, with bias in Ecumenical Missiology. He also has a Master of Arts in Religious Thought, a Bachelor of Technology degree in Civil Engineering and a Diploma in Theology.
He began his ministry in the Church as a Youth Worker in 1986, licensed to preach in 1988 and ordained into the Ministry of the Word and Sacraments on July 1, 1989, Rev. Dr. Fubara-Manuel has garnered about 30 years experience in Church ministry, with leadership experience as Principal Clerk, Member of Administrative Boards and Committees of The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria and Delegate to and Member of many national and international ecumenical organisations. He has served in many ecumenical positions including Chairman, Rivers State chapter of the CCN; Member, Standing Committee of the CCN (from 2002 till date); President, Nigeria Communion of Reformed Churches (formerly, Reformed Ecumenical Council of Nigeria, RECON) and Member of the National Executive Committee of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Married to Elder Mrs. Jessie Fubara-Manuel with whom he is blessed with four children, Rev. Dr. Fubara-Manuel has published four academic books and many articles and papers in journals and magazines. He has established himself as a brilliant preacher/expositor of the Word of God, a social mobiliser and a renowned teacher.
