Abia State chapter of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has appealed to the state government to apply law of equity and fairness in the disbursement of the lean resources of the state so that the interest of their members could be accommodated.
The state chairman of the union, Comrade Chukwuma Udensi made the appeal while addressing a prayer session organized by the pensioners to mark the end of the year.
“While I am aware and fully appreciative of the harsh economic conditions prevailing in the country as well as the political problems and distractions faced by the present administration, it is not equitable that some sectors on government payroll had received their salaries for August, 2016 while pensioners were yet to be paid for April, 2016.
“In my address during the 2015 Pensioners’ Day, I lamented the introduction of the obnoxious staggering system of pension’s payment by the past administration in the state which inflicted untold hardship and suffering on Abia pensioners.”
