While other Councilors in Abia were lamenting over poor funding they receive from the state government, Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke, councilor representing Ohafor ward 1 Asaga Ohafia, in Ohafia LGA, Abia State – is really making a difference with the little he receives.
The councilor who sacrificed his January, 2018, salary in a bid to repair some bad spot of the road in his community said he understand representation as an act of rendering services to the people and not to concentrate on personal enrichment.
In a post shared online, the councilor said despite the little funds he received from the State government, his people will always feel the impact of representation.
The online post also contained photos taken during the rehabilitation work at the road in his community.
The post reads;
“I have taken it upon myself by sacrificing my January, 2018 Salary as a councilor by using asphalt to effect repairs on the bad spot on Ukwuaba hill in Asaga Ohafia, being my area of jurisdiction where I am representing my people as a councilor when other of my colleagues are busy complaining of not receiving enough from the government.
“I am fully aware that one who is out to serve should do so no matter how little he or she receives as I see representation as rendering of service to the people who entrusted their votes to you to represent them than to concentrate on what one will receive and take home for his or her personal use and enrichment.
“This effort is in keeping with my belief that if I cannot do great things, I will make small things great.
“It is a well known fact that many people have lost their lives and had one form of accidental injury or the other, resulting from accidents that normally happen in that particular spot in Ukwuaba hill, the post stated.
