2019: “I’ve been patient & this is the right time for me to move”, Abia PDP deputy chair

The deputy chairman of peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abia state Prince Chima Onyegbu says the just concluded tour of the Party to the 17 local government area of the state was to allow the chairmen of councils give account of their stewardship since assumption of office.
Honorable Onyegbu in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia noted that the party’s constitution provides that candidates present their manifestos to the electorate before elections, as such, it was pertinent for the party to go round and see if what the elected officers were doing was in line with the promises they made.
“All candidates that vied for elections on the platform of PDP must agree to run with the manifesto of the party and must make promises based on the interest of the people within the locality they come from, because at the end, all politics are local.
“Once you assume office, there is a given time you’re expected to perform to justify your promises, walk your talk, so what we did was, having given them our mandate and manifestos to go and run, we had need to go round and see what they’re doing with the allocation given to them.
The state PDP deputy chairman also explained that the party visited the various project sites in each of the local governments to ascertain the level of work done by the councils.
“What we did was get to project locations to see if what they have been telling us is exactly what is on ground” he said.
On the performance of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu three years down his administration, Onyegbu, a former state legislator noted with delight that the governor has been able to win the hearts of people of the state with his programmes and policies, “especially his determination to open up Aba, through the access road networks which would in turn shore up the IGR of the state, allow business to thrive” adding that “the man is in the politics of turning the state around and changing lives” he added.
He also observed that the infrastructure project of the state governor spans across the state, explaining that “Governor Ikpeazu has done what had deferred other governors in Abia state”
Honorable Onyegbu, a House of Representatives hopeful in the next general election, stressed that his intention to run is borne out of “his loyalty for the party, which, according to him, “if he had not been loyal, he wouldn’t have been asked to be the state deputy chairman of the PDP” adding that “I have been patient and this is the right time for me to move”.
On the Not too young to Run law, the former lawmaker opined that it should be a “two-way traffic” to allow the older and experienced ones to tutor and show the young ones the art of governance.
