The Nigerian nation is saddled with multiplicity of problems which range from issues of national unity, security, debilitating economic crisis as well as yawning infrastructural deficits and health challenges. Poverty and Boko Haram insurgence, flooding, erosion, and herdsmen-farmers’ clashes have had their fatal tools on the political and geomorphological fabrics of our dear nation in the past twenty years or so.
The hydra-headed case of corruption and looting of public funds which are incontrovertibly at the root of the pool or avalanche of problems in the nation are still lingering and resonate in the political and the socio-economic life of our people every day.
In spite of the concerted efforts of the APC led Federal government under His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, a man of indomitable will, to stem the tide of these maladies in the polity, the march to the final victory is still challenging.
We acknowledge the outstanding successes recorded in all of these sectors by the Buhari-led Federal government and for which we give our amiable President kudos. What he will achieve and the speed of the achievements in the second term – the next four years, will largely depend on how expeditiously the legislative arm of government (the 9th Assembly of the Green and Red Chambers) handle matters of urgent national interest.
In this regard, the team that mans the legislature comes into focus. Will they be men and women who believe in the change mantra and who want the country to move forward as one indivisible monolith? History is a good informant but people hardly plough the lessons it teaches to recreate and reform their society. In the past National and State Assembly leaderships have often been concerned with self-effusion, intra-party maneuvers, mud-slinging and sometimes, act to create conducive platforms for their success in the next election to further perpetuate themselves in governance regardless of whether they have done well or not.
Issues that bother on the common good and the survival of our nationhood are lost in this miasma and otiose debates. Defections from one party to another engender rancor in parliamentary processes to mar or retard executive decisions.
Political merchandising and brigandry have characterized the election of, and the activities of the leadership in the National Assembly to the detriment of the welfare of the nation and its people. Sometimes legislators fight one another while the house is in session.
The 2019 elections have come and gone. There are new aspirants for the leadership of the nation’s Red Chamber – The House of Senate. The type of leadership the nation, indeed, the Executive, the Judiciary need is one that will be committed to the Nigerian Project and the next level Agenda of Mr. President. The lesson which well-meaning Nigerians ought to learn after twenty years of democratic governance is that such primary indices as experience, vision, talent, creativity, mission of the members who aspire to lead in any Assembly must help to define the person who will be elected into any of the principal offices of the National Assembly, especially, the House of Senate if the excruciating problems of the nation must be urgently resolved. The 9 th Assembly of the Senate needs a proactive individual, a tested and certified proved team player, a prime-mover, and motivator, and a detribalized nationalist to pilot its affairs as Senate President or the Deputy.
One Distinguished Senator – elect whose profile epitomizes these attributes is His Excellency Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, MFR from Abia North Federal Constituency.
Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has a unifying personality and he is quite versatile in business, public administration, and management. As a party faithful, he was one of those who championed the electioneering campaign of our amiable President Muhammadu Buhari across the country in the just concluded 2019 presidential election. Available statistics of the election result figures show that he delivered on the job. Dr Orji Uzor Kalu Senator-elect has the charisma and the potentialities as well as the acceptability to effectively network and grow Nigerian democracy beyond party boundaries for the welfare of the Nigerian people.
Dr Orji Uzor Kalu as an APC party loyalist, commands good followership in the South-East geo-political zone and he is widely accepted for his political ingenuity in the other geo-political zones of the country. There is no doubt therefore that Dr Orji Uzor Kalu popularly known and addressed as OUK, if elected as the Deputy Senate President of the 9th Assembly, will promote national interest, political stability, social justice, peace and harmony in Nigeria.
Speaking on the sterling qualities of Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, MFR, His Royal Highness Oba Michael Adedotun Aremo Gbadebo, the Alake of Egba Land stated, inter alia: “Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK) is a great Nigerian totally devoid of tribal sentiments whose patriotic contributions to nation-building are commendable”. According to the age-long maxim, “The voice of the people is the voice of God”. The 9th Assembly of the Nigerian Senate requires a Deputy Senate President who believes in Nigeria, a man determined to re-engineer and steer the Assembly to greater heights by making motions and helping to pass bills that will promote the national economy and unity. Dr Orji Uzor Kalu clearly stands out as such a man.
I, the Founder, and the members of Agbakuo Oha Foundation, a political pressure group for political mobilization, and socialization for good governance in Nigeria call on our esteemed President Muhammadu Buhari, His Excellency Comrade Adams Oshomole, APC National Chairman, and other stake-holders to listen to the voice of the people and ensure that all hands are on dake to support and elect Dr Orji Uzor Kalu as the Deputy Senate President in the Ninth Assembly of the Nigerian Senate.
God bless Nigeria!
God bless President Muhammadu Buhari!!
God Bless APC!!!
