A lecturer at Abia State University Uturu, Arc. Dr. Alozie George Chinedu, has praised the academic institution, especially the department of Architecture for the quality of graduates it has produced over the years.
Featuring in ABN TV’s “TALK MAKE I TALK” the architect said the products of the department have continued to set the pace among their equals wherever they find themselves, stating that it a product of good leadership.
“We have been known and will still be known for excellence. Where ever you see a product of Abia state university, there is a product of fine line, you can raise your hand and say this graduate is a product of this place. We have instilled discipline and this is as a result of the training of the staff. We have almost every earthly staff and they are all registered members of Nigeria institute of Architect” Dr. Alozie said.
Dr. Alozie however pointed out that there are some students who just graduated and employed to teach but are still under tutelage for about two years under a registered architect.
While responding to the question about the synergy between the lecturers and the administrative body of Abia state University, Dr. Alozie said: “when Christ walked through the earth, not everyone loved him, even his own people. I have been in Abia state University since 1986, so I have practically seen every administration. From being a student to a lecturer, I can tell you about each administration and chancellors having taught for more than twenty three years.”
The don also lauded the leadership style of the university’s vice chancellor, Prof. Ikonne. “If the Hon. Commissioner of information has given my present vice chancellor a score, if he scored him seventy, then I’m scoring him ninety eight plus. I will rate him high because I have seen it all.”
Arc. Dr. Alozie pointed out that the administration of Professor Ikonne is not one sided when he said: “His eyes are everywhere not only the department of architecture alone. One of the things Prof. Ikonne brought into the university is to sanitize the incidence of laxity among academic and non-academic staff. Abia state university now, has been enlisted among the universities that can admit foreign student.”
“Talking about salary, as I am standing here I won’t say this administration is owing me. I am paid. Have you had about strike in the last four years? I just got my promotion letter last week into associate professor of architecture.” Arc. Dr. Alozie revealed.
He said the university has produced graduates who are practicing in different countries across the world, including United States Of America and the United Kingdom.
He enumerated the possible causes of increasing building collapse in Nigeria to include neglect of professionals in the industry, improper mixture of material and substandard building materials
