Governor Okezie Ikpeazu defied the heavy torrential downpour of yesterday to keep a date with the symbolic flag off of the Osisioma – NNPC DEPOT- Ekeakpara- Owerrinta Road Project.
Performing the brief ceremony at the Osisioma end of the road, Governor Ikpeazu stated that though the road is a federal Road, he could no longer wait endlessly for the Federal Government’s intervention while the people of the State groaned under the extremely dilapidated conditions of the road.
He stated that the road which is the Old Aba Owerri Federal Highway bears profound economic significance to the people of the State as it is the gateway to the only NNPC Petroleum Products Depot in the State. The road also leads to the sprawling Osisioma Industrial Estate where companies like Geometric Power is situated. In addition the road provides a strategic bypass that connects Owerrinta to Aba passing through several farming communities.
The Governor decried the bad state of the road over the years and assured that his administration will complete the project and make life easier for our people.
He urged the contractor, the Chinese firm of Messers CGGC Global Projects Nigeria Limited to keep faith with the specifications of the project which is the total application of the RIGID PAVEMENT TECHNOLOGY also known as the CEMENT TECHNOLOGY in the project.
According to the Governor, the cement technology, though very expensive is to be used here because of the high traffic on the road characterized by heavy duty vehicles laden with petroleum products coming from the Depot.
The Governor also charged the Chairmen of two host local governments of Osisioma and Isiala Ngwa South to ensure that they galvanize their people to support the contractor do their work and warned against any form of community disturbances that will affect the project.
