The monthly payment of stipends to widows in Igbere, Bende Local government area of Abia State by one of their sons and a philanthropist, Emeka Mascot Ikwechegh has entered its third month.
Speaking with ABN TV on Monday, Ikwechegh expressed satisfaction with the level of progress recorded so far, saying it is an attempt to alleviate the suffering of the widows and give their lives a meaning.
The widows who number about 130 are said to be receiving their stipends constantly with the mechanism put in place, even in the absence of the sponsor.
The orphans in primary and secondary schools whose parents cannot afford their fees have also benefited in a scholarship scheme rolled out by the philanthropist.
The youths, the elderly and the traditional rulers have also benefited.
