The judgment was delivered by the tribunal today, September 20, in Umuahia, the state capital.
The Abia State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has affirmed the victory of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in the March, 9, 2019 governorship election.
Ikpeazu’s victory was challenged by opponent and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Dr. Alex Otti seeking the cancellation of the result of the election in 15 LGAs, while upholding the result in Arochukwu and Aba South LGAs were he was declared the winner.
According to INEC, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu (PDP) won the election with the APC candidate, Uche Ogah coming a distant second while Dr Alex Otti of APGA came third.
Governor Ikpeazu (PDP) – 261,127
Uche Ogah (APC) – 99,574
Alex Otti (APGA) – 64,366
The Tribunal says; “All the documents tendered by the Petitioners were literally dumped on the Tribunal without more.
“The Petitioner failed to prove non-compliance polling unit by polling unit
“Petitioners have failed to proved their case.
“Petition dismissed for lacking merit.”
