Senator Orji Uzor Kalu

Following insinuations in some quarters that the Abia State National and State Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Umuahia has sacked Dr Orji Uzor Kalu as senator representing Abia North senatorial district, the lawyer to Sen. Kalu, Victor Etie has said his client was never sacked.

Describing the assertion as falsehood and misinterpretation of the tribunal pronouncement, Barr. Etie said the tribunal neither sacked Senator Orji Uzor Kalu nor annul his election rather the tribunal ordered for a supplementary election in some polling units in 2 local governments of Abia North where election in the words of the tribunal never held.

According to him, the three man panel headed by Justice Cornelius Adebayo never ordered INEC to retrieve Kalu’s certificate of return nor annual any of Kalu’s vote or margin of lead.

He said that senator Kalu’s vote and margin of lead are still intact as the tribunal never tempered with it, neither did the tribunal order for a rerun but a supplementary election in some polling units in about 2 local governments which in their wisdom election never took place.

Explaining further Barr Etie said that for there to be a rerun some areas which election took place and result declared have to be cancelled by the tribunal for one reason or the other but this is not the case here, rather a supplementary election was ordered which entails that the already declared results and votes of both candidates are still intact and assuming the supplementary election goes ahead the outcome of it shall be added to the already declared results of both parties and the margin of lead there of.

“Finally not withstanding the above, we will also review the judgement and access the option of appeal as we believe the election was conclusive and therefore no need for supplementary election”, Etie said.
