No fewer that 400 students on Tuesday benefited from Benjamin Kalu’s education bursary award as part of activities marking the 59th Nigeria’s Independence anniversary in Bende, Abia state.
ABN TV gathered that the scheme under Benjamin Kalu Foundation Education Support Project (BKF-ESP), is targeted at helping students take care of their basic education needs.
The sponsor of the scheme and the member representing Bende federal constituency, Hon. Benjamin Kalu said true Independence cannot take place till the people are given opportunity to aspire for their utmost best.
“The independence that we celebrate today is the Independence of our Republic but beyond that, the independence that we speak is the independence that will allow us express our aspirations, pursue our ambitions, chase our dreams to become who we want to become. Until this independence is done in our various families, we are not yet independent. Until your children become who they want to be, we are not yet independent, until your shelter is provided, we are not yet independent.”
While narrating the rough and tough times he had while growing up in the society, he encouraged the beneficiaries to become who they want to be despite the rigorous process.
The students expressed gratitude to the federal lawmaker for the gesture.
Chidebube Kalu, a student from Abia state University Uturu said: “I am very happy, it’s not easy to give out funds to people who are not closely related to you, people outside your locality but you remember them. Am so grateful and this will go a long way to help me.”
The event was well attended by traditional rulers and students from various parts of Bende federal constituency of Abia state.
