Excitement as Benjamin Kalu marks 180 days in office with townhall meeting with constituents

It was a weekend of joy and excitement as the member representing Bende Federal Constituency, Hon. Benjamin Kalu fulfilled his promise of a constant interaction with his people to enrich his knowledge of their challenges as their representative.

The meeting coincided with 180 days since the federal lawmaker was sworn into office.

The meeting which took place at Agbamuzu civic center Umuoche BENDE, had in attendance indigent of Bende, Traditional Rulers, APC Stakeholders, the Youths and the elders.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Kalu, who started the event with prayers, pleaded with God to intervene in the case of the Abia State former governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu urged Bende people to pray for the senator who was convicted by the court for alleged money laundering.

He recalled how Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu helped lots of indigent Abians during the days he was governor. According to the lawmaker, lots of Abians became who they are today by the grace of God through the help of Dr. Orji Kalu.

Speaking further, Hon. Kalu unveiled his achievements since inception of office.

The achievements include bills he had sponsored, motions he has moved, debates, petitions both in regards to Bende people and Nigeria at large.

The lawmaker also revealed that because of him, many abandoned projects across Bende has received Federal government attention as work has already started in some places, while, many will also received government attention.

Few among the bills he sponsored are;

HB.18 – Acts Authentication Act (Amendment) Bill, 2019 (Status; Committee On Justice)

HB. 19 – Nigerian Meteorological Agency Act (Amendment) Bill, 2019

HB.20 – Nigerian Communications Act (Amendment) Bill, 2019

HB. 21 – Federal Capital Territory Education Resource Centre (Est.) Bill, 2019, etc.

At the town hall meeting, many traditional rulers, women and youths were given the opportunity to ask questions, which was answered by Hon. Kalu. The lawmaker also gave them the opportunity to demand for what they felt like his office should do for them.

During the town hall meeting, 8 men legislative aides were inaugurated. Kalu, who doubles as the spokesman of the 9th House of Representatives, charged those inaugurated to do their work diligently.

According to the lawmaker, those inaugurated will be his eyes in the various communities of Bende LGA. They will be going around the constituency, find out the peoples need and report back to the office of the lawmaker.

The 40 aides that were appointed were twenty political and 20 technical.

Responding the recipients and the appointees called Honourable Benjamin Kalu a servant sent by God to serve the people of BENDE and pledged to always identify with him.

Traditional rulers who graced the events are; HRH. Eze Akabuiro (former Chairman of Traditional rulers in Bende); HRH Eze Tony Chukwu; etc.

Meanwhile, Hon. Kalu shared some amenities to empower his constituents, according to him, this is part of his marking of of his 180 days in office.

Things shared are; Motor Bikes for security and transport purposes in the rural areas., Cultural and musical equipments., Food items (17th edition of Hon. Benjamin Kalu’s Food support programme)., Sewing Machine for women empowerment., Music support for the churches across Bende, etc.

Earlier, Hon. Benjamin Kalu in collaboration with PRODA empowers Bende women and youths with amenities to enhance their skills.
