As part of the reason for the season, the member representing Obubra/Etung federal constituency Hon. Mike Etaba visited the patients of Presbyterian tuberculosis and Leprosy hospital (TBL) and the Inmates of the Nigeria Correctional service in Obubra local government area of Cross River State.
Hon.Mike who prayed with the Leprosy patients encouraged them to be steadfast with their faith in God.
Receiving the gifts, the TBL Supervisor for Obubra Elder Mrs Florence Abang, gave a brief description of the colony and appealed to government to come to the aid of the colony as facilities are fast deteriorating.
Similarly the Inmates of the Nigeria Correctional service have expressed their appreciation for the visit of the honorable member.
Mr Asira Oyongha who spoke on behalf of the Inmates expressed his gratitude to God for giving them life to see yet another end of year. He pleaded that government should look into the cases of some of them who already have pending case with the judiciary.
Also speaking is the Assistant Controller of Correctional Service (ACCS) Mr Michael Otogo. Mr Otago in his speech used a phrase “Our Own” prayed that wherever the Honorable member has taken to touch the lives of the Inmates will be replenish. He emphasis the need for government to come to the aid of the prison as the Inmates are exposed to harsh conditions especially during the rainy season because of the open roofs.
Responding Hon. Etaba said the essence of his visit was to show them love and make them understand that they are not forgotten, while thanking the Inmates for the warm welcome, he assured them that he was going to work with all those who are concerned to ensure that those who are due will regain their freedom. He advised them not to forget the experience gained. He enjoined them to enjoy the season of Christ birth.
Highlights of the visits was the presentation of food items to the Inmates and the Leprosy patients.
