The member representing Bende federal constituency, Hon. Benjamin Kalu has promised to build e-libraries in Bende North and South as part of efforts to aid in giving the people access to education.
He stated this on Tuesday during the launching of the first phase of his education bursary for students in Bende federal constituency.
ABN TV reports that no fewer than 400 students benefited from the first phase of the education bursary.
According to Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the second batch will be starting any moment from now, adding that “we will keep capturing people and keep helping you and when you graduate, I will be happy and as well begin to look for work for you as well. Am doing this with all sincerity of my heart so that you will lead the next generation” Hon. Benjamin said.
Addressing newsmen, he said, “Let’s still keep believing in democracy, lets still keep believing that we will get there even though we have not gotten there, we are making efforts, comparatively speaking in the world democratic system we know, Nigeria is not doing badly, but there are still some rough edges that are still to be taken care of”. Hon Benjamin said.
“If we believe in democracy and still pushing for it, definitely we will get there, Rome was not built in a day like you know. If we believe in democracy, the meaning of independence will be more significant. Let’s remember that the independence that is more significant is the independence that will make our people especially that these students study without thinking of who will pay their school fees”. Hon Benjamin added.
On his ideology of empowering the people, Hon. Kalu said: “Gone are the days when people do empowerment and they give you keke-Napep, gone are the days when they give you cars that is not the best empowerment. Empowerment that is the best is to equip you to buy a car and give to others. The empowerment that is effective is to equip you like your mates in Australia, England and America for you to compete and win prices. The empowerment that is important is for me to package all of you for scholarship overseas”. Hon. Kalu said.
Also, present at the event was Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, house member representing Bende north state constituency, of Abia state. He spoke to ABN TV.
“This project is dear to him and he has been talking about it even before the election. It is one of the fulfillment of his campaign promises. Bursary award is something I cannot remember given to students in Bende and when Abia state had it last, but in his wisdom and love for the youths and education, he has lent his voice in a very special manner as to rekindle the hope of Bende students.
Hon. Chijioke added that the beneficiaries owe Hon. Benjamin Kalu a responsibility to study hard and do Bende proud in their various institutions.
“Hon. Benjamin has made today a remarkable and memorable independence celebration for Bende people and students. No Nation can be wealthy without education and that is what Benjamin Kalu is demonstrating today”.Hon, Chijioke said.
Some of the beneficiaries of the Benjamin Kalu Foundation bursary spoke to ABN TV.
